How do I renew my license?
All Electrical and Systems licenses in Massachusetts will expire on July 31, 2025.
Beginning in April 2025, log in to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s ePlace portal by clicking Here and pay with a credit card.

What if I do not want to do my code update online?
The JATC has in-person classes also.
Or you could opt to take a course with another provider at your own expense.

How long is the online code update course?
You have 15 hours of class to complete, over a period of three months from the date of registration. The deadline for completing the Continuing Education for License renewal is July 31, 2025.
How can I do the additional 6-hours?
A 6-Hour course is available upon registering.
237 CMR 17:01 Continuing Education Requirement: (c) Of the required 21 clock hours, six clock hours shall be in areas chosen by the licensee for professional development in the subjects of Electrical Code, business, law, first aid, safety, Building Code, and related topics. Said instruction need not be offered by a Board approved Provider.
Is there a test during the online code update class?
There are 5-10 questions at the end of each module. They are multiple-choice and it is non-fail. If you get a question wrong, you may retry to answer correctly.
Does the class cover NH licenses?
NH Licensees will need to complete one brief additional module to meet the requirements for NH. If you have a NH license and do not see the NH module in your account after logging in, please contact the Support Department at M.E.P. Con. Ed., LLC 508-746-3724 or support@mepconed.com.
Does the class cover Systems Technician & Systems Contractor Licenses?
C&D Licensees will need to complete one brief additional module to meet the requirements for renewal. If you have a C or D license and do not see the C&D module in your account after logging in, please contact the Support Department at M.E.P. Con. Ed., LLC 508-746-3724 or support@mepconed.com.
What if I am retired and don’t have a Union Card Number?
Your Union Card Number is the same when you are retired as when you were an active member. If you can’t remember it – contact the Financial Office at 617-436-5150.
What do I need to do upon finishing the class?
As long as you filled out your Certificate information (your electrical license numbers) with the appropriate license # and letter classification, your course hours will automatically be submitted on your behalf. You will need to wait until the year 2025 to pay for your license renewal.
Is the operation of the online course easy for individuals not used to using computers?
Yes! Once you have completed the registration process the course is fully geared towards ease-of-use. The auto-play, auto-save, fully narrated course allows for simple login and resume of course play with a few button clicks. The course can be completed over time, allowing users to login and logout as often as they wish. The course is also fully compatible with computers, tablets and smart phones. Also, there is phone and email support for anyone who may be having issues or unsure of the process.
When do I have to do my code update?
The deadline to complete the required continuing education for the 2023 Code Cycle for MASSACHUSETTS licenses is July 31, 2025.
Do I need to retake the exam to reinstate my license if it expired more than one renewal cycle ago?
Yes, per the Board regulation your license can only be reinstated by retaking the respective exam. To begin the reinstatement process:
1. Complete a 15 hour code class on the current code cycle.
2. Complete a Request For Reinstatement Form and email it to electricians.board@mass.gov
3. The Board will reply and advise you on the next steps.
